There is one thing about my relationship with God that I cannot fathom—how can God love me so much that He would give His Son Jesus to die for me. I have heard heroic stories of how a person would die trying to rescue someone else whom they may or may not have known. Our military service men and women know that they put their life on the line for the freedom we enjoy. Firemen, policemen and emergency workers all put themselves in danger every time they rescue someone. God made us in His image and part of that image includes a knowledge that people need saving no matter what. God sees you and me as souls in danger of judgment who desperately need a Savior.

The Bible describes God’s love in Romans 5:8 when it says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” The New King James Version translates it, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Because we have committed offenses against God by our sin, we are in need of a Savior who can restore our relationship with God. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). The greatest thing about God’s love is that He did not wait until we got better—He showed His love toward you and me while we were still sinners.

God loves you no matter what you have done. There is no sin so great that God’s love and grace cannot forgive you—if you trust Christ to be your Savior. Paul expressed this to the Roman Christians when he stated in Romans 5:20b, “But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:” The mistake many people make—and you may be one—is thinking that they do not answer to God for sins committed. You may realize now that you need to trust Christ to be your Savior. If so, ask Him to come into your heart and life to save your soul. Christ is the only One who will be able to save you.
